As a future industry in the textile sector, the smart fiber and flexible wearable industry is becoming the core direction for the high-quality development of the textile industry. At present, the China National Textile and Apparel Council is taking the lead in promoting the discussion and formulation of the "15th Five-Year Plan" for the textile industry. How can we promote technological innovation and the transformation of achievements in related fields and cultivate new quality productivity in the industry? The Second Smart Fiber and Flexible Wearable Technology Exchange Conference was held in Nantong, Jiangsu Province on November 11th and 12th.
Plan and lay out the "15th Five-Year Plan" for the textile industry
At the meeting of the Smart Fibers and Flexible Wearables Working Group of the China National Textile and Apparel Council, renowned scholars and industry experts conducted in-depth analyses on the development trends of smart fibers and the application of smart fibers and flexible wearables technology in fields such as medical care, sports, elderly care and health, and military clothing, and shared relevant research results.
Zhu Meifang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of the National Key Laboratory of Advanced Fiber Materials, said in her speech that since the 14th Five-Year Plan, smart fibers and flexible wearable technology have received extensive attention and emphasis both at home and abroad. Nowadays, the technology of fiber materials has evolved from fine denier and functionalization to intelligence. It interacts with the surrounding environment, which is reflected in the upgrade from passive functional response to active intelligent adaptation. In the future, the intelligence and cross-border integration of fibers will be the core development trends.
Professor Wang Hongzhi from Donghua University started from the development history of smart fibers and expounded on their functional development trend. He proposed that smart fibers are the most ideal carriers for flexible electronic devices. Smart fibers are not simply "adding electronic components to clothes", but rather making the fibers themselves electronic devices.
Professor Wang Lu from Donghua University focused on the integrated application of intelligent flexible wearable technology and medical care, introducing the current development status of wearable and implantable smart textiles on the body surface. She proposed that the application of smart textiles in the medical field is not limited to disease monitoring. More importantly, it is about achieving active treatment, developing an integrated diagnosis and treatment model, and building a closed-loop management system for monitoring and treatment.
Professor Hu Yixin from the Second Medical Center of the PLA General Hospital introduced the clinical demand for smart fibers and flexible wearable technology from the perspectives of elderly care and health as well as chronic disease management. She proposed that the textile industry has great potential to help extend geriatric medicine from outpatient clinics to communities and build a full-chain proactive health service system.
Li Chenming, director of the Institute of Military Supply Engineering Technology of the Academy of Systems Engineering of the Academy of Military Sciences, introduced the application prospects of intelligent flexible wearable technology in the field of military clothing. He indicated that flexible intelligent wearable materials integrate intelligent functions such as perception, computing and communication, and have broad application space in the military clothing field in the future.
Dr. Yan Yan from the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, shares the application practice of high-tech materials in sports. Taking domestic high-performance shooting clothing systems, rowing superhydrophobic technology and implementation plans, and cold and hot alternating motion recovery systems as examples, he proposed that the engineering cross-integration of multi-disciplinary technologies is a key path to promote the progress of sports engineering technology and shows broad application prospects.
Li Lingshen, vice president of the China National Textile and Apparel Council and the head of the Smart Fibers and Flexible Wearables Working Group, said that since its establishment a year ago, the working group has closely coordinated the forces of industry, academia and research, promoted resource integration and sharing, and achieved fruitful results in related fields of research. Compared with the high enthusiasm of academic research, the industrialization and application of new technologies still face a relatively long path. The working group provided support for the planning and layout of the "15th Five-Year Plan" for the textile industry by systematically sorting out the current development status of smart fibers and flexible wearable technologies. Whether it is the cultivation of future industries or the upgrading of existing ones, smart wearables will be a key direction for the technological development of the industry.
